I was in Brownsville for a week on business and trying to save a few $$ and found the Cameron Hotel. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, don't come here. If you need lots of space, don't come here. If you are use to upscale accommodations, please don't come here! You'll just write an ugly review. This is a vintage type hotel and reminds me of a German Guest House. The rooms are small but adequate. The mattress may not be a fancy pillow top, but it's comfortable enough. Bring eat plugs, you might hear conversations at night you don't really want to hear. The traffic dies down about 9:30-10 and it is very quiet, at least it was during my stay. There's no pool and no breakfast, but you can't beat the price for you or your pet! There's a great pastry shop on the next block and lots of shopping just one street over. Also walking distance to the border crossing if you have your passport and want to see Matamoros. Or a 30 minute drive to South Padre and the beaches!! The family that runs the hotel is very sweet! They try very hard to help in any way. I would stay here again!
Cheap and cheerful. Budget hotel in a historic 100 year old building. Keep in mind due to the age of the building you’ll have shared bathrooms on your floor. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Located in historic downtown Brownsville,TX. Walking distance to restaurants, bars , Mexico and a 30 minute drive to SpaceX. I will definitely stay again!
Extremely disappointing. Room was tiny, dirty and probably had t been updated in 30 years or so. I had to walk across a rooftop that was trashed out to get to my room which felt very unsafe. The door looked like someone could just knock it down. I left an hour after getting there because it was dirty and I didn’t feel safe. I contacted Priceline because I booked the room from there. The hotel owners really need to do a complete remodel and the building has potential…..
This place is a health hazard. I booked this place for starships 4th test launch. I booked the place because my friends had already chose the place and I didn't research it unfortunately.
My room was incredibly tiny, beat up furniture, a 20 plus year old non padded spring mattress and all The bedding was musty smelling with cigarette holes. There was no bathroom in the room and I saw 3 small cockaroaches. One crawled onto me in bed.
Also there was a white powder around all of the bed posts and around the perimeter of room. I'm assuming for bed bug deterents. YUCK!
The walls were incredibly thin to where you could hear adjacent neighbors taking loudly, or even just hearing the creaking of them walking across the room or turning around in bed. It was impossible to sleep because the road traffic noise was loud as well.
This is honestly the nastiest hotel I have ever stayed at. And the parking situation is also very sketchy and confusing. I would steer clear of this place. The only redeaming quality was the front desk staff were nice, yet there was an English barrier.
This place is not kept care of at all and repairs are the sloppiest work you can imagine. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra 20 bucks for a decent motel.
This hotel is definitely historic. With that age, comes some wear and tear. It was a good value, and it was run by a lovely family who were attentive to any needs of customers. The area isn't the best area, but it is close to the border crossing if you're in the mood to travel to Mexico, and it is in close proximity to some shops and food spots.
